TO KNOW BEFORE MEASURING
Your body is unique and unrepeatable! Remember that when choosing a piece for your existing piercing or a new one, you must choose the right type and size of jewelry for your body. Remember that what works for a person doesn't necessarily work for you.
Before you start defining the size of your new jewel you must take into account:
-If you just got a piercing, the jewel you have at the moment is not the one that corresponds to your body, this jewel is a little bigger to help the healing process, but once your piercing is healed it is recommended that you change it for one that fits your body characteristics.
-Is your piercing already healed? In case you have doubts if your piercing is not healed, visit this link to know the healing times of each piercing.
Now let’s see some different types of measurements you need to consider:
Gauge: refers to the thickness of body jewelry. It works in reverse; the higher the gauge, the thinner the piece of jewelry. Gauges usually range from 20g to 00g. Anything thicker than 00g is measured in inches.
Diameter: this measurement is used for rings or other circular types of jewelry. It measures the internal diameter of the ring, from the widest points. |
Length: this is used to describe the distance between the two ends of the bar in a straight line, not taking into account the accessories themselves. |
Top size: refers to the outer diameter of the accessory and it is given in millimeters. |
Top threading: makes part of the accessory measurements as it describes the threading pattern, Usually given in millimeters. Please note that this measurement of your jewelry must be smaller than the gauge of your bar for it to fit properly. |
Threadless pin:refers to the bar fixed to the accessory. In this case you don’t have to worry about sizes because it fits to every gauge bar or labret. |
