Wearing Agha

This section is for you if you have a healed piercing so you can change your jewel. If you have doubts about the healing time you can take a look in this link.

Decisions, decisions: choosing my Agha jewelry for my healed piercing.

When you just got a new piercing your options tend to be quite limited. You have to avoid jewelry that can move around and snag on clothing (for example, big hoop earrings) since you still have to prioritize healing over everything else. During these stages, studs or smaller styles are recommended.

Once you are fully healed you can try other pieces of jewelry! At Agha you´ll find an amazing variety of designs so you can freely experiment with new jewels. As important as the design is the quality of the material. With us, you do not have to worry about that because our jewelry is made either with implant grade titanium, steel grade implant or gold 14-18 karat. Our materials are certified by Olympus Corporation of the Americas by Application Scientist, ANI-XRF and XRD Technologies. Our latest analysis certification was in August 2020.

At the Piercing Glossary, you´ll find more information and tips so you´ll end up wearing the jewel that completes the puzzle of your style, you can take a look here.

If you are still uncertain about the right jewel to wear consult your piercer for recommendations.

The magic of sterilized jewelry.

We use an autoclave device to sterilize the jewel by exposing it to high-temperature steam for several minutes. This process kills all bacteria, viruses, and fungi that might be in the jewel, so when it comes into contact with your piercing you are protected from any disease caused by one of these microorganisms.

Although all the Agha jewels are sanitized, they are not sterilized by default. If you want to receive your jewel sterilized, please choose the option when you are doing your purchase.

Changing your jewelry

When you receive your order verify that your jewelry and measurement are correct before opening the package. Once it is open you can not return it. This no-return policy ensures the sanitary control of the jewelry.

When changing your jewelry, you must take into account:

It is recommended that the new jewelry you bought be sterilized. Remember that Agha Jewelry offers this service.

Make sure your hands and the part of your body where you are going to put the jewelry are completely clean.

Place a blanket on the surface where you are going to put the jewelry so in case you drop it you can find it easily.

When changing your jewelry do it gently to avoid generating any kind of problem or trauma to the piercing.

Now you can put it on! We prefer to do it in front of the mirror so we know exactly where the hole is.

Go with the flow, don’t push it, don’t force it, take your time. If your jewelry doesn’t go on or off easy, visit your piercer.

Make sure your jewel is closed to avoid loosing it.

Taking care of your jewelry

In your hands you have a jewel of the highest quality, it is important that you take care to maintain its brightness and good condition. These tips should only be applied when your piercing is completely healed, not before.

From time to time take off your jewel and wash it with saline solution or a whipe

Clean the thread and the labret with saline solution

Unscrew the jewel and clean it so that no impurities or dirty tissue accumulate to avoid it getting stuck

When applying make-up be careful not to have contact with the jewelry.

Care of your piercing

Piercings need a long-term commitment. Even though your piercing is completely healed, you´ll need to take care of it.

Avoid sudden or hard movements in your piercing.

Touch it only for care and jewel change purposes.

Do not play with it, do not spin the jewelry.

In case your piercing is in the ear, avoid sleeping continually on that side.

Abstain from cleaning your piercing or jewelry with chemical products like alcohol or strong and antibacterial soaps.

Like your hair, teeth, and nails, your piercing needs constant care. For a detailed self-care list visit the following link.

I had all the precautions and my piercing still got infected.

If you suspect an infection or show infection symptoms after changing to a new piece of jewelry, contact your medical professional as soon as possible. The infection was most likely brought on by hygiene deficiencies in the jewelry, so make sure any new product you buy is properly sterilized. To make sure your jewelry is a complete blessing for you, Agha Jewelry offers a sterilization service.

I lost my jewel and I do not want my piercing to close up.

We´re sorry you lost your jewel.  You´ll always count on us for replacements and new acquisitions. It is not good for your piercing to remain naked too long, so hurry to buy a brand new Agha jewel. Let’s see how long your piercing can be without a jewel.

Lobe: during the initial healing phase, lobes can heal as fast as 24 hours. However, after the healing phase, the lobe is prone to form fistulas or abnormal blood vessel connections. This means your body has adapted to the piercing and might stop trying to close it. If you have had your lobes pierced for years, they might never close up even if you remove the jewel.

Helix: these piercings can close up fast during the initial 6 months of healing. However, after the site has healed it is hard for these holes to close up. The cartilage has low blood flow and this hinders the healing process required to close it up.

Nostrils: even though the outside hole might never fully heal, the inside hole can close up in about 24 hours. The inside of your nose is covered in a mucous layer that can close the hole really quickly, so be sure to always keep a jewel in if you don't want to lose your piercing.

Conch: the cartilage might never heal completely, but the skin on top might close up the hole. This specific piercing has a long healing period, so be wary of not removing your jewel for even a single day during this process.

Tragus: it works very similarly to the conch piercing. The hole itself might never fully heal, but the skin might cover it up. During the healing process, this can happen in a matter of hours.

Nipple: these are some of the fastest to close. If the piercing is fresh and in healing, it can close in minutes. If you have had it for years, it can still close up within a week, so be particularly careful about removing the jewel from this type of piercing.

Navel: the closing speed for this type of piercing is very difficult to predict and varies greatly from person to person. It is a surface piercing so it should close up fast, but some people claim to be able to last a couple of weeks without a jewel before it heals.

Tongue or lip: it can close in a couple of hours if it's new. If you have passed the healing period, it can stay open for a few days or weeks without a jewel.
